Carmen S Johnson - Author, Producer, Visionary & Igniter
I am an Iowa native, born and raised in Waterloo but moved to the great city of Des Moines in 2013. I am a PROUD Momma of 3 girls ages 13, 7 and 4. (Now 17, 10 and 8) Yes…all girls (Whewwww). I am Human Services Student at Des Moines Area Community College and very close to completion!
I have completed DMACC with honors and now nearing graduation from Briar Cliff University!
Update #2: (2020)
I have completed Briar Cliff University with honors and now, on to grad school!
I am actively involved my community with the goal of raising mental health awareness.
I love to cook (when I have time) and music is my personal therapist. I also enjoy clowin' with my babies...they keep me vibrant.
What motivates you?
First and foremost, I want to please God. The worse thing that can happen is for me to come face-to-face with Him not having done what He wants me to do in this life.
My biggest motivation is my children and people in general. I just want everyone to be ok…more than ok…I want them to be EXCELLENT! When I see people who are hurting or not living up to their fullest potential in life it pushes me to show them how. I know that I cannot change everyone but if I can just impact the life of one, I can impact an entire generation.
What are your future plans/goals?
My goal is to touch as many lives as possible before I leave this earth. That’s all I want to do. I do understand that in order to do that there are certain things that I gotta do to equip myself to help others. I plan to obtain a Master’s Degree in Social Work and build a strong and effective Ministry. I am a carrier of the Gospel…it’s not a title, it’s who I am. I will be who I was created to be.
What would you like for the people you serve to lose/gain?
I really like this question.
I want people to gain a positive view of themselves and realize the worth and value that they have. As they do that, they will lose their sense of hopelessness.
What is your favorite quote?
I have so many scripture quotes that I’d probably take up several pages but,
here is one that strengthens me.
“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
I have worked in the social services field for over 20 years and carry with me extensive training and know-how. I have also been working with youth for as far back as I can remember—even as I child, I mentored peers. My expertise is crisis intervention, community engagement, skill building, program establishment/implementation and policy/procedure standards.
